JCI Manila is proud to congratulate Sen. Reginald “Reggie” Yu, our Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the Asian Pearl Journal, on his election as the 107th President of the Rotary Club of Manila, Asia’s very first Rotary Club and the biggest in the country. Winning with an overwhelming 91.5% of the votes, Sen. Reggie’s election is both a personal milestone and a source of pride for all of us in JCI Manila.
Sen. Reggie’s leadership journey started right here. Back in 1991, he joined JCI Manila as a fresh graduate eager to make a difference. Over the years, he wore many hats: officer, trainer, facilitator, author; and left a mark not just in our chapter but in JCI Philippines and JCI International as well. In 2011, he went on to revive the JCI Senate Manila as its President, later serving as National Treasurer of JCI Senate Philippines.
He also made his presence felt beyond JCI, serving as President of the Anvil Business Club, President of the Xavier School Alumni Association, and leader in other professional organizations. Sen. Reggie continues to wear many hats of leadership. He is also currently the President of the Philippine Paint and Coatings Association and a Director of the Philippine Association of Management Accountants in a concurrent capacity. But no matter where his path took him, he carried with him the discipline, drive, and spirit of service first honed at JCI Manila.
As Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Asian Pearl, Sen. Reggie helped give our chapter a voice; capturing our history, our values, and our legacy in print.
When Sen. Reggie joined the Rotary Club of Manila in 2019, it didn’t take long before he found himself in leadership once again. He stepped up as Assistant Club Secretary during the pandemic, became Vice-President soon after, and led key initiatives like the Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly, WASH projects, and medical missions that restored the smiles of 50 children through Operation Smile Philippines.
As Chairman of the RC Manila Foundation, he raised funds, mounted art exhibits, renewed certifications, and supported projects that touched lives. He also poured energy into The Balita, Rotary’s historic newsletter, continuing his passion for storytelling and service.
Reflecting on his election, Sen. Reggie shared:
“To be elected President of the Rotary Club of Manila is not merely an honor. It is a sacred trust. My journey thus far has been humbling, but I know my most colorful chapter has yet to be written.”
For us in JCI Manila, Sen. Reggie’s victory is more than just an achievement to celebrate. It’s proof of what our chapter has always stood for building leaders who go out into the world and serve with integrity, humility, and impact.
From his days as a young Jaycee, to his years as Asian Pearl’s steward, to now taking the helm of Asia’s pioneering Rotary Club, Sen. Reggie carries the flame of JCI Manila wherever he goes.
Congratulations, Sen. Reggie! Your JCI Manila brothers celebrate this new chapter with you.
