JCI Manila Brings Digital Learning Closer Through Mobile Computer Labs

MANILA, Philippines — In today’s world, access to technology is no longer a luxury. It is a gateway to education, opportunity, and a brighter future.

Recognizing the need to bridge the digital divide among Manila’s youth, JCI Manila, in partnership with the City Government of Manila and the Manila City Library, launched Kaalaman Para sa Kinabukasan, an innovative Mobile Computer Lab initiative that brings digital literacy directly to underserved communities across the city’s six districts.

Designed primarily for out-of-school youth, the project transforms learning into a mobile experience, ensuring that quality computer education reaches children and young adults who have limited access to technology and digital learning resources.

Each mobile classroom is equipped with 11 computer units, a projector, premium tables, and chairs, creating a conducive learning environment wherever the classroom travels. More than simply teaching computer basics, the program provides digital literacy training, values formation, and practical skills that prepare beneficiaries for future employment and lifelong learning.

Guided by the belief that education today creates opportunities tomorrow, the initiative seeks to empower young Manileños with competencies increasingly required in today’s technology-driven workforce.

The project officially reached a major milestone on June 22, 2026, with the turnover of the first Mobile Computer Lab at Kartilya ng Katipunan. The ceremony, which was broadcast by GMA Network, highlighted the shared commitment of JCI Manila and the City Government of Manila to make quality education more accessible to every child, regardless of circumstance.

Representing the project team during the turnover were Project Chairman Erick Gonzales, Project Co-Chair Sheldon Jimenez, Anton Isla, Mark Mao, Benjamin “Benj” Bolivar, Kennedy Sy, John Boo, Kenneth Lotho, Louis Pasamante, and Jay Amarnani, whose dedication transformed months of planning into a meaningful reality for Manila’s youth.

The initiative continued beyond the turnover through the Bags of Hope Distribution, held on June 25 at Kartilya ng Katipunan and on July 6 in Barangays 56 and 576. These outreach activities complemented the mobile learning centers by providing additional educational support to children and communities, reinforcing the project’s mission of making education more accessible to those who need it most.

The partnership was further solidified on August 5, 2026, through the official Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing between JCI Manila and its government partners. Present during the ceremony were Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, JCI Manila President Eds Ke, Executive Treasurer Josh, Project Chairman Erick Gonzales, Project Co-Chair Sheldon Jimenez, Anton Isla, Mylene Villanueva, and representatives from the Manila City Library. The agreement formalized a shared commitment to sustaining and expanding digital learning opportunities for communities throughout the City of Manila.

More than the launch of a mobile classroom, Kaalaman Para sa Kinabukasan represents an investment in the future of Manila’s youth. Every computer lesson delivered, every digital skill acquired, and every opportunity created brings a young learner one step closer to achieving his or her full potential.

The project’s impact has also been recognized beyond the local community. Kaalaman Para sa Kinabukasan was among the JCI Manila initiatives awarded the Certificate of SDG Target/Indicator Alignment, recognizing its contribution toward advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) through measurable and sustainable community impact. It joins fellow award-winning JCI Manila projects Threads of Life and Tamaraw Guardians in demonstrating how local initiatives can contribute to global development objectives.
