From Manila to Yilan: The JCI Onto Taiwan Experience

In September 2025, JCI Manila embarked on a purposeful journey to Taiwan not only to promote the upcoming 2026 JCI World Congress in Clark, but also to strengthen ties with our international brothers and experience Taiwan’s culture of innovation, business, and service.

From fellowship-filled dinners to the proud moment of raising the World Congress banner at the National Convention, the visit captured what it means to be a JCI brother abroad: grounded in tradition, driven by purpose, and united in brotherhood.

A Journey of Purpose and Brotherhood

The delegation from JCI Manila departed early on September 12, 2025, arriving at Taoyuan International Airport before heading on a scenic drive to Yilan City. The three-day visit, from September 12 to 14, was filled with cultural experiences, meaningful engagements, and new friendships.

The team visited both Yilan City and their sister chapter, JCI Kaohsiung, joining the Welcome Dinner at KaiSyuan Gourmet Plaza and the International Night at HuaYang Wedding Plaza. These events were filled with authentic Taiwanese cuisine, colorful performances, and the unmistakable spirit of fellowship. They were more than social occasions; they were opportunities to connect, share ideas, and celebrate the bond of JCI brotherhood.

On September 13, JCI Manila proudly presented the 2026 JCI World Congress during the National Convention’s Conference Assembly held at National Ilan University. Congress Director and 2019 JCI Manila President LA Sevilla presented the vision of World Congress 2026, supported by Chairman Mao Chang Chu, who translated the message into Mandarin. The entire delegation stood together as the World Congress banner was raised, symbolizing Manila’s unity and leadership on the international stage.

Outside the formal sessions, the group explored Taiwan’s culture through visits to the award-winning Kavalan Distillery, local markets, and cafés. They also joined an exclusive Table for 8 dinner with JCI Philippines National President Felix “Thirdie” Chua. These experiences reminded everyone that JCI is not only about leadership and projects but also about friendship, culture, and creating lasting memories.

Strengthening International Bridges

The visit had two clear objectives: to promote World Congress 2026 in Clark and to build stronger relationships with JCI Taiwan chapters, especially JCI Kaohsiung. It was part of the International Directorate’s continuing mission to create partnerships, foster cultural exchange, and open more leadership opportunities for JCI Manila members.

The warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality of JCI Taiwan members stood out. Conversations were always intentional, often centered on projects, leadership, and collaboration. Their gatherings blended structure and energy, reflecting a culture that values tradition, respect, and sincere engagement.

Taiwan’s innovative spirit and strong business networks were evident in how JCI Taiwan connects entrepreneurship with social development. Their activities are not limited to networking but are designed to turn partnerships into projects that make a difference. Many of their events showcased local enterprises while providing real opportunities for collaboration.

Chapters across Taiwan also presented initiatives that aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly on environmental sustainability and youth leadership. For JCI Manila, this became a model for how to combine business expertise with social purpose, ensuring that projects remain both impactful and globally relevant.

World Congress 2026: Excitement and Anticipation

The response to the World Congress promotion was overwhelmingly positive. Taiwanese delegates expressed enthusiasm and curiosity, asking questions about travel arrangements, programs, and logistics. Several members even shared their intent to attend, signaling that excitement for Clark 2026 is already spreading across the region. The presence of CD LA Sevilla and the Manila team added credibility and enthusiasm to the promotion, reinforcing the significance of the event.

Leadership Lessons and Shared Brotherhood

Representing JCI Manila overseas taught the delegation valuable lessons in flexibility, diplomacy, and humility. From observing local customs to presenting in another language, the experience highlighted that leadership means representing something larger than oneself. It also reminded every delegate that carrying the JCI Manila name is both a responsibility and a privilege.

Our partnership with JCI Taiwan is is a bridge for learning, business, and leadership opportunities that continue to grow with each visit. Strengthening this relationship gives JCI Manila members access to new ideas, networks, and experiences that can inspire both personal and professional growth.

To all members: take part in these global connections. Join future Onto programs, participate in international exchanges, and support World Congress 2026 in Clark. Together, we continue to uphold JCI Manila’s legacy of leadership, built in Manila and shared with the world.
