For many families raising children on the autism spectrum, the hardest part is not the diagnosis itself.
It is the silence.
The uncertainty.
The feeling of navigating everything alone.
Some parents notice the signs early but do not know where to begin. Others understand that their child may need help, yet are held back by fear, confusion, or the painful reality that professional assessment and care are often financially out of reach.
Behind every child is a family simply trying their best to understand.
And through LENA CARE, JCI Manileña chose to stand beside them.

As the first sister chapter project from JCI Manileña formally featured through JCI Manila coverage, LENA CARE represents more than just a milestone—it is a reflection of what happens when compassion is transformed into action.
Launched in partnership with the Pasay City Government, LENA CARE is a flagship initiative focused on strengthening support systems for children on the autism spectrum and their families. But unlike many awareness campaigns that stop at conversations, this initiative was built to go further.
Because awareness means little if families are still left without access to help.
Held on April 23, 2026, at Pascual Villanueva Elementary School in Pasay City, the program became a safe space where parents, educators, healthcare professionals, and children came together—not just to learn, but to feel seen, understood, and supported.
At the center of the event was an Autism Awareness Seminar that focused on early detection, behavioral indicators, proper intervention, and practical caregiving strategies. Parents listened intently, many realizing for the first time that they were not alone in their experiences.

Some found answers.
Some found clarity.
Some simply found comfort.
And sometimes, that alone can change everything.
While the seminar was ongoing, children on the autism spectrum were welcomed into a thoughtfully prepared environment filled with coloring activities, sensory toys, puzzles, and interactive games like Jenga. It was not just about occupying them while adults listened.
It was about inclusion.
It was about creating a space where children felt safe, accepted, and free to simply be themselves.
Simple gestures throughout the day carried deep meaning. Meals were shared among families. Travel pillows and small gifts were distributed—not as grand offerings, but as reminders that care can also be found in the smallest acts of kindness.
For many parents, it was one of the few times they felt truly understood by a community.
The initiative was supported by leaders and advocates across sectors, including Emi Calixto-Rubiano, represented by Luigi Calixto Rubiano, alongside healthcare and education experts such as Lara Alvero, Rosalie R. Condes, and Laarni R. Alejandro. Their presence reinforced one important truth: supporting children with autism requires collective effort.

But perhaps the most heartbreaking insight surfaced quietly during conversations with families.
Many parents shared that they wanted to seek professional assessment for their children—but simply could not afford it.
And without assessment, intervention is delayed.
Without intervention, opportunities become limited.
Without support, uncertainty continues.
That realization changed the direction of the initiative.

LENA CARE is now preparing for its next phase—a fundraising effort dedicated to helping families access proper autism assessments and professional support. The goal is no longer just to raise awareness, but to remove barriers that prevent children from receiving the care they deserve.
Because every child deserves the chance to be understood.
Every parent deserves guidance.
And no family should have to face the journey alone simply because of financial limitations.
More than a project, LENA CARE became a reminder that leadership is not always loud.

Sometimes, leadership is listening to a worried parent.
Sometimes, it is creating safe spaces for children.
Sometimes, it is choosing to care when others look away.
For JCI Manileña, this initiative is only the beginning.
And for the families who attended, it was more than an event.
It was hope.
Hope that understanding is possible.
Hope that support exists.
Hope that brighter futures can still be built—one child, one family, and one act of compassion at a time.
