Lead Beyond the Classroom: JCI Manila Honors and Empowers Educators Through TOGA Bataan

On March 11, 2026, at the Bataan Tourism Pavilion in Balanga City, JCI Manila once again brought its legacy of impact to life through the Ten Outstanding Guro Awards (TOGA) program—an initiative that continues to recognize, empower, and uplift the educators who shape the nation’s future.

Led by Project Chairmen John David Roque and Raphael Sanchez, the TOGA Bataan leg gathered public school teachers from across the province for a day dedicated not only to learning, but to appreciation and renewed purpose. More than a seminar, the event became a meaningful reminder of the vital role teachers play in building the next generation.

TOGA, developed in partnership with the Department of Education, is built on two core pillars: TOGAdvocacy Talks and the TOGA Awards. Through these advocacy sessions, teachers are equipped with practical knowledge in financial literacy, health and wellness, and personal empowerment. Participants who complete these sessions become eligible to be recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Guros, with awardees receiving both recognition and tools to further enhance their teaching practice.

This is what it means to Lead Beyond recognition—toward real empowerment.

During the Bataan program, the TOGA committee, together with major partner EastWest Bank, conducted a series of engaging and relevant discussions designed to address the real-life challenges faced by educators. Topics ranged from financial awareness to wellness and personal development, ensuring that teachers walked away not only informed, but also refreshed and inspired.

The sessions were led by a strong lineup of speakers, including Joemel Malit, Enro Mendoza, Robin Kwee, and Lec Toribio, each bringing their own expertise and perspective to the program. Their talks went beyond theory, offering practical insights that teachers can immediately apply in both their professional and personal lives.

This is what it means to Lead Beyond knowledge—into transformation.

The event was also graced by key leaders who continue to champion education and community development, including Raquel Garcia, Reanna Garcia Mendoza, and Flordeliza Del Rosario. Their presence reinforced the shared commitment between local government, educational institutions, and civic organizations to support and uplift educators.

Beyond the advocacy talks, the initiative extended its vision through an ocular visit for a potential learning facility at Bataan National High School—highlighting JCI Manila’s commitment to creating long-term, sustainable impact in the education sector.

This is what it means to Lead Beyond today—into the future.

But beyond the structured program, the true impact of TOGA Bataan was felt in the quiet, emotional moments shared throughout the day. In the smiles of teachers who felt recognized. In the tears of those who felt seen and valued. In the renewed sense of purpose that lingered even after the sessions ended.

Because no matter how much the program is described, its true value can only be understood when experienced firsthand. Like a beautiful painting, it is something that goes beyond words—it is something that must be felt.

And in those moments, it became clear that this was not just another project.

It was a movement.

A movement that recognizes that when you empower teachers, you empower generations. A movement that understands that leadership is not just about leading from the front, but about lifting others along the way.

As JCI Manila continues to bring TOGA across the country, one message remains constant: leadership is not confined to boardrooms or titles—it lives in classrooms, in communities, and in the lives of those who dedicate themselves to shaping others.

Because when we choose to support those who teach, guide, and inspire, we are not just creating impact for today—we are building a better tomorrow.

And that is how we Lead Beyond the next generation.
